The Universe comes from a single origin. The Big Bang Theory, remember? Everything - The whole Universe! - was once condensed into a single massive orb of glowing hot chaos! Except that it was so dense no light could escape. It looked no different from the nothingness surrounding it.
Very much different from the world we see around us today, right? Not so! Look at the complexity of our bodies; the random firings in the brain, the encoding of our DNA and the intricacies of our languages. Yet when you don't look so close, it all seems to work just fine! Our DNA builds us, forms our brains, which then create and evolve language! How neat!
Isn't it possible were not giving the Universe enough credit?
Back when the Universe was budding at the dawn of time, is it not possible there was indeed some order to the chaos? Wasn't the Universe simply the most complex organism ever conceived! A giant furnace of energy, mass, and conscious thought!
Could it still be?
Perhaps we are much more like the Universe than we realize. If you were someplace new without any friends or any idea where you actually were, what would you do? Wouldn't you want to find out where? Wouldn't you want to have a look around? Wouldn't you start talking to yourself?
Wouldn't you feel lonely?
And if you were talking to yourself for long enough, wouldn't you wind up inventing some imaginary friends?
And if you had all the power in the Universe? All the computing rationale of a million-trillion suns! You could certainly spend some time thinking of a few ways to keep yourself entertained for all eternity!
Since there's no one around to talk to, maybe you'll build yourself some friends. Perhaps they'll breathe air and drink water and get their energy from a star which sort of resembles you in a way. But for this air and water to exist, you'll have to invent a few laws of physics for their celestial playground. It's okay. Take your time, you have all there is.
Maybe your friends will be able to help you answer some questions. Like, Where are we? Why are we here? Where are we going? What happens when this is over?
This is a new place for you, this void. Have others come this way? When they got here, which way did they go? They had the option of traveling in every single direction, if you just pick one way to head off to, you risk never finding them - perhaps it will be best to split up and search in all directions all at once!
So let's split up. Let's keep looking for what else is out here.
This is our mission. This is The Meaning of Life.
We are that Universe. When we think, it's the Universe thinking too. When we have ideas, it's actually us discovering ideas the Universe already had and provided for.
We need to work together to solve this problem which is bigger than all of us combined! There are other Universals on other planets struggling with the same problems we are. The Universe didn't put all its eggs in one basket after all. Regardless of their efforts, we need to step up and set petty, Earthly squabbles aside and start tackling the real issues the Universe sent us here to investigate.
From what we can tell here in the outskirts of the Milky Way Galaxy, is that the matter of the Universe is expanding outward and continuing to expand at an ever increasing rate. Eventually the momentum will build so much that the galaxy, the Sun's gravity, and even our tiniest particles will be pulled apart. We can't let this happen. For if it does, then we merely die alone. And no one wants to die alone.
(OR everything is shrinking proportionately and getting faster at it too - either way we dissappear!)
We need to learn how to travel faster than this, we need to reach the limits of the universe - and report back - before there's nothing left!
And if nothing is found? Then we are alone in this void. Our universe is the only one of it's kind. And we must accept our fate to wander the void alone. We must build artificial black holes throughout the universe to recollapse it upon itself once more, so it might decide whether to start the routine over again. This or death when the Universe's energy runs cold.
In the meanwhile, we must accept our destiny as stewards of the Universe. We must do all we can to bring peaceful, intelligent life to all the stars throughout the sky. To build a new hope where there was once a small, lost child alone in the dark.
Keep in mind there isn't much time! We need to begin action now! We need to start behaving how the Universe had intended - as a whole, a single, cohesive unit hellbent on developing our technical skills and mastery of the laws of physics! There is no time for greedy hoarding of technology, resources, and ideas! These are not inventions of Man, but tools instrumented by the Universe from the very beginning! They are here for us to complete the Universe's bidding and in a timely fashion!
I have a plan to get us from here to there.
Step One: Dont Change A Single Thing
It's important we continue doing whatever we're doing as if nothing has changed, as if the secrets of the Universe had not been revealed with dispair and uselessness cast over your entire insignificant and ultimately meaningless life, because not only is this not quite true, but it might also start a bit of a panic. Rather, everything must begin happening in the background, out of sight and without consequence to the rest of the world.
Step Two: Take Care of Everyone
Humans are rather simple machines. We take in food, sunlight, nutrients, water, and wash it all down with horseplay and bullshit. Sometimes we break down and there are easy ways to fix us, or barring that option, there's a constant stream of newer models ready to take our place.
We need to make certain every last one of these persons is fed, watered, housed, clothed, educated, and empowered to make healthy decisions.
Do this by building a large-scale food factory. Separate from our regular agricultural system, these units are completely automated and produce enough fruit, vegetation, textiles, and clean water to keep alive and well the growing 9-billion-person population worldwide. Everything humans need - and some things we don't! Build one on each continent and float a couple more on the Pacific Ocean. Fund them with super-economic volunteers and resources, remember these stuctures are international and they do not exist in the regular day-to-day economy of the present. These are a global investment in our global future.
While the resource-machines are being built, we must educate the upcoming generation beyond anything we have seen before. Children will surprise you if you push them, and so we will. An entire generation of doctor-engineers, Rocket Surgeons if you will. They have the choice to choose a profession of course. Artist or artisan, they will be prepared for both.
We will also need to develop technologies in automation and resource collection. Solar panels must capture as much of the Sun's energy as possible before it gets too far away. Nuclear transformation must be harnessed not for mere energy but for changing one element into another. It is too hazardous to the planet to mine certain metals from the ground when they are just as accesible in the lab. We must also conserve the natural energy balance on earth, trapping excess carbon in rock diamond instead of toxic gasses and irrigate water across the entire planet, from the Arctic to the Sahara. Leave no locale uninhabitted.
Step Three: Change The World Overnight
When all of our children have been fed and are ready to take the reigns of our new global society, we'll party like it's New Year's Eve! For this will be the dawning of a new era! From this point on there will be no division between the Universe and the individual- no national politics to obscure our values and priorities! No provincial government or local economy to steal our tax dollars- just people living, learning, laughing, loving, and growing from this first planet out to others.
This dream is a peaceful world unimaginable by today's standards. You think it's impossible because it is. The only way to do it is to give up everything you once knew at the stroke of midnight.
The people in this world will be different.
Our children are smart. Very smart. They have been connected to each other since birth. Sharing experiences, thoughts, music, and other sounds you wouldn't dare call music. They play virtual games which coexist in the world around them. They can tell the difference between reality and the augmented reality they see, but it doesn't matter- it's always there anyway. They know each other by name and face, not by color of skin or nationality. They know the Law. The laws of physics. There is no economy to hinder their actions, no way to prescribe behavior through threat of fines or taxation. They know exactly what can and cannot be done. Each has graduated medical school, each has saved lives, and each has primed their bodies to athletic durability. They are the most capable humans to have ever lived and they will have the easiest time of all of us. The struggle will be over!
The only problem humans have ever had standing in our way of belonging in the Universe is ourselves.
We just need a clean break from the past, that's all.
But what happens to the past? The new system takes care of us! We don't need it anymore. It may have collectors' value for some, but those who care will eventually die off. Write about it, take videos if you wish. Setup a museum. But few will want to remember or even acknowledge such a dark, pathetic time in our civilization's history.
We can do this! We can have our new beginning, our clean break from the past on the night the world ends, December 21, 2012!
